The Hust Citadel
When the Romanian administration was established in Maramureș, in 1919, the emblematic painting „The Hust Citadel” was inventoried along with other works in the Maramureș County Palace. Later, it was exhibited at the Palace of Culture in Sighetu Marmației, as a result of its rental by the ASTRA Division of Maramureș.
After 1938, the painting most likely arrived in Cluj, and in 1940, after the surrender of Northern Transylvania, it was evacuated to Turda.
In October 25, 1959, through its registration in the heritage of the Maramureșan Museum, the work returned to Sighetu Marmației, the hometown of Hollósy Simon.
In the 80s the painting was exhibited in the museum’s of history section, than, in the 90s, it was moved to the „Dr. Ioan Mihalyi de Apșa” Memorial House, due to the close ties that Simon Hollósy had with the Mihalyi de Apșa family.
On February 2, 1992, the painting was stolen and sold in Hungary. Two years later, it was recovered and returned to public display at the „Dr. Ioan Mihalyi de Apșa” Memorial House.
